As part of its services, KFAN provides consultation, workshops and training to enhance family involvement with child welfare providers.

Our services are typically based upon partnerships that work within our network. We ensure that our network partners are aligned with our vision and mission and are capable of meaningfully engaging all family partners at the level of policy planning and practice.

Family Advisory Councils (FAC)

The Kansas Family Advisory Network, Inc. (KFAN) works in partnership with the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services to establish new or to expand existing Family Advisory Councils (FACs) in Kansas communities. KFAN will work in collaboration with family partners and local/regional child and family serving organizations who have expressed interest in supporting the development of local or regional FACs.

Family Advisory Councils – The composition of a Family Advisory Council includes families or individuals who have had personal involvement with child welfare services. FAC membership includes birth parents, resource parents, adoptive parents, relative and kinship caregivers, custodians, guardians, and former foster youth. Established FACs should have at least two birth family members. The FACs’ primary purpose is to bring the family voice to child welfare program and policy development, implementation, and evaluation. KFAN and its affiliated FACs seek opportunities to increase meaningful family involvement at all levels of child welfare services, from the family case plan meeting to the boardroom.

Partnering and Leadership Strategies Training (PALS)

Partnering and Leadership Strategies (PALS) Training was developed through a partnership of family partners and practitioners for the Kansas Family Advisory Network, Inc. To prepare family partners, and practitioners to work in partnership toward better outcomes for children and families.

This interactive and experimental training will provide family partners and agency practitioners with strategies to work in partnership. The training will also prepare family partners to take on leadership roles within the Child Welfare System while gaining support of the agency practitioners
